What a week

It was such a crazy week I’m just getting around to posting about it. This was my last week working nights, so as of Monday I’ll be working mornings. The boys start preschool/daycare and we’ll be home as a family every night for the first time in over three years.
The week started out fairly normal, Monday and Tuesday were the standard routine of playing at home then going to work. Wednesday started normal, Cody had planned to take the boys to the local splash pad after taking the babysitter home. They made it off our street and around the corner before being rear ended by a UTA truck at a stop sign. No one was hurt (thank goodness), but the van has a good amount of damage.

The boys were pretty upset about the accident they kept repeating “the awesome van is broken” “the truck broke the van” all night; and I mean all night. They woke up crying at around 2 am talking about the van followed by Nicholas crying “Andrew, Parker, Nicholas need another hug” over and over again. This continued until around 4 am when Cody fell asleep on the floor in their room.
Since neither of us could miss work we found that we can fit three car seats in Cody’s car so I could take him to work. It looked ridiculous, but since the other vehicle is a government one they keep government hours. That meant we couldn’t do anything the night of the accident and it was a lot of Cody dealing with the UTA (that was a nightmare) and their insurance to get a rental. The boys were pretty clingy, tired (I wonder why) and asking for ‘another hug’ all day. Thursday night was not as bad, but still a fair amount of fussing and asking for hugs.
Friday was a bit more normal, van is scheduled for repairs and we have a rental van for a couple weeks. We’re pretty excited about the big move to mornings and the boys starting school. I don’t know how they’ll handle the waking up at the crack of dawn, but I’m sure we’ll adjust.

Another busy weekend

I’m guessing this is what it’s like for people who only have weekends off, we seem to have been running non-stop on weekends all month. This past weekend was no difference. I took the boys to gymnastics Saturday morning. On the way to the gym I told the boys that if they behaved we would go to the cupcake store after for a treat.
Not only did they remember the promised cupcake, but they told their class about it. When the boys class ended not only did they come out and talk about getting a cupcake another kid in the class told her mom she was going to get a cupcake. So as a group we all walked to the specialty bakery on the other side of the shopping complex. The boys were great about holding hands and walking. I’m so glad we stressed that for so long.
As we entered the shop the boys were super excited and shouting out which cupcake they wanted. I let them each choose one. Andrew went with the cookies and cream, Parker the strawberry shortcake and Nicholas the fairyfetti. Once the cupcakes were distributed you could have heard a pin drop. It was complete silence for about 10 minutes.

They were happy boys!

On the walk back to the van the boys didn’t want to all hold hands with each other. Andrew held my hand, Nicholas held the other mom’s hand and Parker held the classmates hand. The conversation between Parker and the other little girl was hilarious. We overheard “I ate my cupcake all gone, you eat your cupcake?” He pointed out different types of cars and the toys in the window displays we walked by.
The boys and I headed home, where I dropped them off to go to a batman themed baby shower. Lots of fun, followed by a visit to Lakeshore Learning Store. This is a very dangerous store, but I don’t feel guilty spending money there. I bought the boys some dry erase books to practice writing letters, some plain dry erase boards to doodle on and a chore chart. There are so many cool toys and games I could have spent a lot more time (and money) but I wanted to get home.
That night we tried to replace our broken ipad, but once we made it to the Apples store we were told we’d need an appointment and they were booked for the rest of the night (lesson learned). After the visit to the mall the boys were so tired we were just able to get some dinner in them before bedtime.
Sunday was another busy day, we over slept and were late getting out of the house to go see my dad. He’s moving out of state next week and I wanted to see him before he left and take the boys. Cody took some great pictures, but he hasn’t processed them yet. We had a nice visit and then it was time to visit the Apple store again. We replaced the Ipad (ouch) and played in the fountain. Well the boys got splashed a little and giggled the whole time. We entertained a fair number of other people watching them run around having a blast. Visiting the mall also gave us a chance to pick up new swim wear for the boys. I can’t wait to take them to the local splash pad.

Not another quiet afternoon

I feel so behind on blogging, only one more week on this crazy schedule and I hope to keep up. Since I leave so early in the afternoon I haven’t been taking as many pictures and I don’t see the boys until the next day. Last Wednesday the boys pulled out their popcorn poppers, or as they call them pop pops. These seem to never get old, at least a couple times a week the boys spend about a half hour playing with them.

I grabbed some video at first I was worried that I didn’t grab the external mic, but with as much noise as they were making it wasn’t needed.

Random stuff

As usual we have been busy and my training schedule is still not fun. Luckily the boys love their babysitter and can’t wait for her to arrive each day. Each day after Cody takes our sitter home he usually takes the boys to dinner or to a park to run off energy.

Since my schedule change naps have gone away. They usually take a short car nap on the drive to take the sitter home, but it’s usually only for a half hour. They play, have dinner, bath time and then it’s off to bed.

Some post bath Super Why time before bed. They helped themselves to the bread, at least they’re sharing

Just two more weeks and I start working mornings and we start a whole new schedule. We’ve already changed gymnastics schedule, now we have a Saturday morning class. The best part of the class is that there are only six kids in the class, so the boys are half of the class with three instructors.

Show week at the Little Gym

Playing catch up here. Last Friday was show week for the boys gymnastics class. Cody met me at the gym so he could see the boys ‘perform’ and to trade cars with me for work. The boys were beyond excited to see Daddy. When he arrived the boys were using the potty they came around the corner and couldn’t contain their excitement.

The boys did okay in showing their skills, having Daddy there (and me in the room) was a huge distraction.

I have to keep reminding myself that the boys are at least year younger than all of the other kids in the class, so they may be a bit more distracted by all the fun stuff to climb on. The boys took turns on the beam, the bars, and the floor mats.

With the chaos I didn’t get many pictures (well keepers) the boys were running all over the place or demanding to sit in our laps. After everyone had a chance to show their skills we were given time to just play.

Even Cody tried out some equipment, the gym was not made for tall people.

After free play all of the kids were given a medal and applauded. They were told to look at their parents and say “Ta-da.” Parker said it, but didn’t look at us. Nicholas wouldn’t look at us and instead of ta-da, he yelled wahoo.

I didn’t get a shot of Andrew, probably because I had two other boys in my lap. Once all of the awards were given out we attempted to get the boys to stand together with their medals.

Well at least we tried.

Weekend

I’m recovering from my first couple nights on my new training schedule, I’ll I can say is it is going to be a long month. Over the weekend it was a lot of errand running, groceries and the weekly Costco run. It was weird to go shopping by myself and on a Saturday, I normally go mid-week with the boys when the stores are not so crowded.
After shopping we had just enough time to load the boys up so I could run to the bank then home to pick up Cody who was fixing the sprinklers. I decided to take the boys in the bank with me instead of going through the drive through. I always am a bit nervous taking the boys anywhere without a stroller or the wagon because they are 3 year olds and can act like well 3 year olds. I was thrilled that the boys started saying we have to use our inside voices and hold hands without prompting. They stayed with me and held hands the entire time.
We picked up Cody and headed to a wedding reception for Cody’s cousin. It was nice to see our extended family and the boys were happy to eat crackers, cheese and cookies. It was an hour drive each way to the reception so our goal was to keep the boys awake so it wouldn’t ruin nap time. They stayed awake on the drive, but they also stayed awake when we put them down for a nap. I know that at some point I’ll have to accept the boys not napping; I’m just not ready yet.
Since they refused to nap we knew we were in for some cranky boys and an early bedtime. It was so hot out I didn’t want to cook, so I took the easy way out and picked up pizza. On the drive to pick up pizza the boys were starting to show signs of being tired. On the drive home to try to keep them from sleeping I gave the boys some candy laces. Two of them fell asleep with a candy lace hanging out of their mouths. It was about a 7 minute power nap for Andrew and Parker, just enough to give them a little energy to eat then it was straight to bed.
Sunday we tried to teach the boys about a lazy Sunday, it didn’t work. We did some reading and showed the boys some of the new Carsland videos from Disneyland.

Since the summer like heat had arrived we spend most of the morning enjoying the air conditioning and playing in the house. The boys I ran an errand after nap. For the last week or so the boys have been asking to be tucked it and wanting a pillow to sleep on. So we picked out new pillows and some Thomas (of course) pillow cases. I don’t have any pictures of it but it is so sticking cute seeing the boys tucked in and snuggling into their beds.
After getting their new pillows everyone happily put them in their cribs and we headed into the back yard to play with the water tables. I am so grateful that our back yard is full shade by about 5 pm. It was hot outside.

SONY DSC

Amazingly Cody I and stayed completely dry, but the boys had their first water fight. It was not a coordinated water fight but there was a couple cups of water being thrown (mostly misses).

It was so hard to get pictures of the boys looking at me and getting smiles extra challenging. Or at least more than one smile in the same shot.

After about an hour of playing the boys were done playing, everyone requested dry clothes.
