Today's post is brought to you by Cholestasis

Friday night my arms started to itch a little, I figured it was just dry skin since the hospital doesn't have soft water. Even with copious amounts of lotion I kept itching. Saturday morning the itch had spread to include my legs. After a blood test I was diagnosed with cholestasis an uncommon (1 or 2 in a 1000 pregnancies) condition where the liver doesn't process sufficient levels of bile salt which then enters the blood stream and causes itching.

There is no rash or anything noticeable, but it feels like I'm covered in mosquito bites from my shoulders to my wrists and hips to my ankles. They started medication for it which according to the doctor takes about 3 days to be fully effective. To treat the itching they have been giving me shots of a medication called Newbane. It controls the itching completely, but also includes a sedative and pain medication. So even if I did still itch I am too looped to care. As an added bonus it's letting me sleep at night, which has been a welcome change.

Delivery is set for Friday at 9 am unless of course something changes. At this point my Dr. has also said that at any time I can throw in the towel and they'll deliver me. I'd really like to make it to 35 weeks so that there is a chance to skip the NICU and go straight to the step down nursery. We may have take home babies.

Today was a growth scan the boys have sure grown. They had a hard time getting images but they are now estimated at 5 lbs 4 oz, 5 lbs 3 oz, and 5 lbs 12 oz. They let me know that they are probably very off on baby C as they couldn't get a clear shot of him (my ribs were in the way) and they didn't get a measurement of his femur. Either way everyone being over 5 lbs is wonderful news.

Four more sleeps and we get to meet the boys!

Goooooaaaal!

Today makes it 34 weeks, my original goal to carry the boys to. The scheduled eviction (delivery) will be next Friday. At 35 weeks, the boys will have less time in the NICU and will hopefully be able to breath on their own from the get go.

I'm really excited to meet the boys, so is Cody. Cody has been amazing while I've been in the hospital. Working, taking care of everything at home plus coming to see me almost everyday. On top of everything he also took care of buying a mini-van, finishing set up of the nursery, getting clothing and blankets washed for when the boys come home...basically he's done it all.

Now that the house is ready (or close enough) for the homecoming all that's left to do is anxiously await their arrival.

There is a plan...sort of

Made it to 33 weeks 5 days, 34 weeks is in sight!

I've been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia so they are monitoring me even more closely. If my blood pressure goes up or I develop any secondary symptoms we'll deliver. If everything stays the same delivery is scheduled for April 24th. So as of right now it's a countdown.

Nine days or less to go! I'm getting excited to meet the boys and am happy how long I've been able to carry them so far.

33 Weeks 3 days

Internet has been limited over the last couple days which has been driving me a little crazy. Last night the Dr's decided not to give me a shot of morphine and phenegren to slow contractions due to concern about fetal withdrawal. Instead they decided to give me Ambian. I told them it doesn't make me tired, but we tried it anyway. So, I spent 10 hours wide awake waiting for it to wear off.

Today my Dr decided to stop the meds they have been using to control the contractions up to this point to make sure it's not masking high blood pressure and see what happens. They are expecting delivery soon. I'm excited to meet the boys and also nervous about the whole surgery and how quickly things will go once they get started.

32 weeks 5 days

Last night was a very rough night, letting me sleep only about 2 hours and today has been so busy with different doctors visiting and monitoring the babies that napping wasn't much of an option. Hopefully tonight I'll sleep.
While I've been here Cody has been really busy taking care of everything at home. Yesterday he got our home refinancing paper work in which will save us a lot of money. He went to Babies R' Us alone and got the last of the what we need items. Today he bought a minivan. I think at this point we are as prepared for the boys as we can be.
On Monday my doctor predicted I would have 7 days at most until delivery. I think I'd be okay with next Monday, I'd still love to make it to 34 weeks but we'll see. Still hoping to dodge the 10th so we don't have to share our anniversary and skip Easter as well. So the boys will just need to cool their jets until next week :)

32 weeks 4 days...

Still pregnant, which is wonderful albeit a little less comfortable for me. The boys are all really active and doing great. Today during the non-stress test all three had the hiccups making it a bit of challenge. It means they are practicing breathing so I don't mind spending extra time on the monitors.

During the NST my doctor came to talk to me about all kinds of fun stuff. They are giving me the steroid shots again since it's been more than two weeks and I am considered high risk for delivering in the next 7 days.

I've been feeling pretty good, but for the second night in a row I've had to be given a shot of morphine and phenergan to slow contractions and help with the pain. It's still 10 days until my goal of 34 weeks. For the first time I'm starting to worry about making it. By now the boys should be approaching the 5 lbs mark if their rate of growth is still roughly 2 weeks ahead of average (which is where it has been since they started doing growth scans).

32 weeks

Still pregnant at 32 weeks another milestone. I had a non-stress test and all of the boys sounded really good. Still hoping to make it to 34 weeks, but at this point the doctor's have said they may be big enough to just be feeders and growers.

I'm starting to get really uncomfortable. I haven't been truly comfy in quite a while, but now moving is painful and breathing is becoming much harder. Still totally worth it though.
